I've been buying castelli free aero bibs for a few years now. I saw the negative reviews on this year's version and held off on buying for a while, but ultimately decided to try them. I took them on a typical 20 mile ride to test them out. The good: same great chamois. Straps are very different and much improved, kind of more rigid like assos straps; they stay in place, don't fold up like the old straps, I think they are a huge improvement. The leg grip system seems about the same, but they stay down on my hairy legs a bit better (in past versions they stay put way better on shaved legs than hairy legs) Ambivalent: material seems a hair thicker maybe? Compression is about the same. The bad: they are indeed longer, now sit right above the knee. I have relatively long legs compared to my torso, and I wonder if someone who wears the same size with normal or shorter legs could have a problem with this. I did not experience any irritation of the seam on my skin like the other reviewer. I wonder if this is because of my relatively longer legs. Not sure. Regardless, overall I actually prefer this version of the free aero bibs compared to priors because of the straps.

A great bib ruined by one factor.

The chamois and resultant comfort are excellent. But, my 36" waist and 40" hips (I'm 5'9" and 185 lbs) really require an XXL size? But, hey, it's Euro sizing. Now for the fly in the ointment. The bibs have straps but no back panel. As a result trying to get these on results in twisted straps (think taking a strip of material until you've twisted into some sort of spiral) which are a PITA to untwist so that the straps can fall flat against your back and shoulders. I love their fit and comfort but if I had known about the straps I would not have bought them.

Great chamois ruined by horrible seams

The overall fit was pretty good, though the legs were a bit longer than normal and came just above the knee. However, the seems by the knee are very noticeable and started the chafe me after about an hour. After two hours I started to bleed a bit. The chamois is great, but the seams are a deal breaker.
