Why We Like The Ripmo AF SLX Air Mountain Bike
We peg the Ripmo AF SLX Air Mountain Bike as one of the most capable bikes from Ibis thanks to its forward-thinking DW-Link suspension, and the reasonable price tag is quite the bonus. This AF version boasts a full aluminum frame that cuts cost and offers a more compliant ride than its carbon counterpart, with only a slight weight penalty. The Ripmo AF boasts a modern 64.9-degree head tube angle that provides stability at speed without going over the top and sacrificing maneuverability, while a 76-degree seat tube angle puts us in a powerful pedaling position so that the climbs are less of a drag. The short 435mm chainstays make the bike easy to corner and offer a playful ride feel for riders who prefer the stubby rear end. 147mm of DW-Link rear travel brings tons of rear wheel traction for scaling slippery roots and descending chundery chutes.
The Ripmo AF SLX Air kit is built for an intuitive ride feel everywhere on the mountain from massive hits in the bike park to trying our hand at some enduro racing. The reliable 12-speed SLX drivetrain sits solidly in the middle of Shimano's range, boasting a massive gear range and smooth shifting. The 147mm of rear travel is bolstered by a Marzochi Bomber Air shock to soak up trail chunder while remaining supportive as we pedal, and the 160mm Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil fork handles its traction duties in the front of the bike quite well, too. This hard-charging ride is rounded out with a set of 29er Blackbird Send wheels to keep us rolling no matter how gnarly the terrain gets. From full days of shuttling with the crew to toeing the line at the local enduro series, the Ripmo AF SLX Air Mountain Bike is built for taking on the gnarliest terrain while still being able to climb to the top.
