Why We Like The Santa Cruz Highball CC X0 Eagle Transmission Reserve Mountain Bike
Whether we are taking on the Big Cottonwood Loop or entering our local cross-country race, the Santa Cruz Highball is a top choice with the Herd. The fast and streamlined Highball is a cross-country hardtail optimized for an efficient and lively ride. With a 67-degree headtube angle, the Highball offers precise handling while not being so steep that we feel like going over the bars on the descents. A 73.5-degree seat tube angle is slack enough to get out of the way when we have to stand up out of the saddle on the technical climbs but steep enough to put us in an efficient pedaling position. The Highball's lowered seat stays reduce trail vibrations and feature vertical compliance to isolate the top tube from trail chatter. A smaller diameter, 27.2mm seat tube, and seat post help to make for a softer feel and more compliance, and the Highball is dropper post compatible so that we can be efficient on climbs and descents.
The X0 Transmission AXS Reserve build of the Santa Cruz Highball features a race-worth component spec. First, this version of the Highball features Santa Cruz's premium Carbon CC frame—the stiffest and lightest weight possible. SRAM's X0 Transmission AXS drivetrain takes this ride to new heights and provides flawless electronic shifting, durable components, and a hanger-less interface for simpler installation and upgraded durability. Reserves 28 XC rims are super lightweight and durable, so you can save weight and simultaneously reduce vibrations from the trail. SRAM's new Level Silver Stealth 2-piston brakes are lightweight and throw down loads of stopping power. Premium Maxxis Rekon Race tires roll efficiently, are supple, and still provide the grip we need to cross the finish line. The RockShox Reverb AXS XPLR seat post provides us with smooth, electronic changes in saddle height, and a RockShox SID SL Ultimate, 100mm fork, is super lightweight and gives us one of the best cross-country forks on the market.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
