Why We Like The Santa Cruz Nomad C R Mountain Bike
From sending it down chunky descents at the bike park to lapping our favorite downhill trail loops, the Santa Cruz Nomad is a mixed-wheel monster truck that lives to shred. With 170mm of VPP suspension, the Nomad can handle almost anything we can throw at it. Proportional chainstays and seat tubes allow for a frame with the perfect pedaling position and stability no matter what size frame we have. A slack 63.8-degree head tube angle provides stability and confidence as we descend chunky downhills, and a steep seat tube angle, averaging 77.7 degrees, gets us upright and over the pedals for efficiency when climbing. The mixed-wheel design allows for the best of both worlds, giving us rollover capability with the 29-inch wheel up front and enhanced turning radius and agility with the 27.5-inch wheel in the rear. For extra confidence taming double black diamond trails or bike park sessions, we turn to the Flip Chip in the shock link, allowing us to make the Nomad even slacker and lower. An integrated Glovebox frame storage allows us to keep our essential ride items in the bike's downtube, and an integrated downtube protector, chainstay protector, and shuttle guard protect our frame from damage.
The R build of the Santa Cruz Nomad is entry-level but gives us quality components that won't burn a hole in our wallet. First up, Santa Cruz's Carbon C frame utilizes quality carbon fiber to give us the stiffest, lightest and strongest frame possible. SRAM's NX Eagle drivetrain gives us a huge 12-speed gear range and has a proven track record for reliability. RaceFace AR Offset 30 aluminum rims allow us to plow through rock gardens without worry, and Maxxis Assegai and Minion DHRII enduro tires provide tons of traction and bite to instill confidence on the rowdiest of descents. RockShox's Super Deluxe Select soaks up the big hits with ease, and a RockShox Zeb, 170mm fork, keeps things steady up front.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
