The Nomad Carbon C GX Eagle AXS Reserve Mountain Bike is built to supply maximum stability for bike park laps and shuttle runs, yet still provides some maneuverability for trail rides and climbing as well. The sixth generation Nomad is on the cutting edge of bike technology, with a mixed wheel design that utilizes a 27.5in rear wheel for intuitive jumping and cornering with a 29in front wheel that rolls over jagged rocks and delivers enhanced traction. The bike’s rear end boasts 170mm of VPP suspension that helps us dissect the most technical terrain, and Santa Cruz updated the suspension curve with lower anti-squat to limit harshness from square-edge impacts. We love stashing our favorite snacks in the Glovebox storage compartment that’s right in the downtube, along with the included Tool Wallet and Tube Purse. The Nomad achieves stable descending characteristics that truly resemble a downhill bike thanks to the slack 63.5-degree head tube angle—but it’s no slouch on the climbs either. Lower anti-squat also enhances pedaling support, and a steep 77.6-degree seat tube angle (low position, size large) keeps us in an optimal pedaling position.

This premium build makes room for top-tier components with a value-focused Carbon C frame construction, and Santa Cruz now utilizes size-specific frame stiffness standards to ensure an equal ride feel across all sizes. We jive with SRAM’s GX Eagle AXS electronic drivetrain that provides instant shifting for last-minute gear changes in ultra-techy terrain. Reserve 30 HD carbon wheels make this build an excellent choice for entertaining some trail rides because they’re super light and responsive under pedaling power. A Fox 38 Float Performance Elite fork up front supplies 170mm of travel and beefy 38mm stanchions for loads of traction that comes in handy on loose, fast descents. This Nomad build is a standout quiver-killer option for the downhill-focused rider that still wants the option to pedal up to some lesser-known trails, or as a descent specialist alongside a trail or XC build.
