Why We Like The Yeti SB140 T1 TLR GX/X01 Eagle 29in Mountain Bike
Balanced for the climbs and spec'd for the downhill, the SB140 T1 TLR GX/X01 Eagle 29in Mountain Bike is among our top picks for mid-travel 29ers. 140mm of Switch Infinity rear travel is capable for gnarly bike park descents, yet plenty efficient for long days in the saddle on rides like the Whole Enchilada. Yeti revised its Switch Infinity link by strengthening the entire system to provide a more planted feel on the trail that's also a little easier to maintain. Now rolling on 29in wheels, the SB140 is Yeti's flagship mid-travel trail bike and handles the most technical desert rock rolls and techy moves with ease. This Lunc Ride build sees a handful of downhill-oriented tweaks including a 160mm travel fork up front, which brings the head tube angle to 65 degrees. This makes the Lunch Ride SB140 quite stable at speed, yet preserves some maneuverability for navigating tight sections of trail. The seat tube comes in at 77 degrees on the Lunch Ride, providing a supportive climbing position for long days in the saddle.
This T1 build utilizes top-tier suspension and braking components to boost the bike's downhill capabilities, and still is built on Yeti's top-spec TURQ carbon layup. The hybrid SRAM X01/GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain provides reliable, crisp shifting while saving some room in the budget for the suspension components. The Fox Factory 36 GRIP2 fork provides 160mm of travel for bomber descending capabilities and tons of adjustments for fine-tuning the damping for specific terrain types. The Fox Factory Float X rear shock offers the same wide-ranging adjustments, and compliments the revised Switch Infinity link with a planted descending feel. We appreciate the braking power of the Code RSC brakes on this build, which pairs well with the aggressive braking knobs on the rear Minion DHR II tire from Maxxis. The DT Swiss XM1700 alloy wheels make lots of sense on this build for their robust durability. This SB140 build is the perfect option for someone who wants to push it on the downhills without committing to the cumbersome feel of a full-fledged enduro bike.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
