Why We Like The Yeti SB160 T3 X0 Eagle T-Type Mountain Bike
Bombing down our home trails in Park City or lining up at the EWS, the Yeti SB160 is an enduro machine we would be proud to ride any day. We love the Yeti SB160 for its premium suspension system, aggressive geometry, and race-inspired design. Yeti took the proven SB150 platform and amplified it, giving the SB160 10 millimeters more travel in the rear, a longer reach, a shorter seat tube, and a higher clearance frame. Yeti's renowned Switch Infinity suspension system received an update this year, giving us a smaller, more compact design, more durable, corrosion-resistant bearings, floating collet pivot axles for enhanced stiffness, and a new bushing design for greater sensitivity. The slack 64-degree head tube angle gives us extra confidence when descending by giving us more stability and keeping our front wheel tracking out in front of us. A steep seat tube angle, averaging at about 72.5 degrees, centers us over the pedals for an efficient climbing position, allowing us to easily punch up those technical climbs. The SB160 has a long reach, 29-inch wheels, and size-specific seat tube angles and chainstays to give us a bike that is as fast and confident as possible on the descents while still maintaining poise and agility when climbing. Yeti revised their progression curve and made it more linear, bumping it down 17 degrees to give us more predictable damping characteristics and better small bump sensitivity. Meanwhile, the last third of the travel sees a steep increase in progression, supplying us with bottom-out resistance.
The T3 XO Eagle Transmission AXS build of the Yeti SB160 is race-worthy and has premium components. Yeti's TURQ carbon frame is made with the best carbon fiber available to give us the stiffest and lightest frame possible. SRAM's X0 Transmission AXS drivetrain provides us with the latest technology in electronic shifting, sporting an auto-adjusting overload clutch that can recenter itself after being knocked out of line following a crash, flawless shifting under load, a hanger-less interface for more durability and a near bombproof design that is modular, so individual pieces can be swapped out. Fox Factory suspension provides us with top-tier performance, and both the Factory 38 Grip2 fork and Float X2 shock have numerous low-speed and high-speed compression and rebound adjustments. DT Swiss's EX 1700 Custom wheelset is a premium aluminum wheelset that is durable and relatively lightweight and is paired with DT Swiss's 350 hub that has a 36 t ratchet engagement upgrade for quicker power to the wheels. Premium Maxxis enduro tires give us the grip we need when in the steep and rough, and SRAM Code RSC brakes provide us with SRAM's top-tier braking power and give us a contact adjustment wheel on the lever so we can always have the perfect bite point.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
